brothers grimm movie
Has anyone seen previews for the upcoming 'Brothers Grimm' film? I just saw one for the first time tonight....it's with Heath Ledger and Matt Damon as the brothers, and Monica Belluci as a wicked witch. It seems 'fairytales will never be the same.' Just wondering if anyone else had heard anything about it.

It's been in the works and mentioned on this site several times over the last few years. Don't know if it will be good or bad, but it will be obviously complete fiction. Interesting concept, but it takes even more liberties with the scholarly brothers than "Ever After" did several years ago. Just as in some fairy tales, viewers will have to suspend some belief and just go along for the ride if they know anything about the Grimms.
Either way, it will hopefully drum up more fairy tale interest in the general public which is always fun for SurLaLune.

I've yet to see a (the?) trailer, but I may have to hunt one down now. I probably wouldn't turn my nose up at a chance to see Monica Belluci in a film without very good reason in any case, though.
On a tangental, but still fairy tales and pop culture (sort of) note, thank you to everyone on this board who's ever recommended Terry Pratchet. Not only have the Discworld novels provided excellent summer reading, but they're the perfect way to take the edge off a job search!

I'm looking forward to it. The trailer makes it look fun/silly, but Gilliam's too clever for it to be merely that, I think.

Yeah, the trailers looks cool. There was a poster for it that had Monica as the beautiful queen and then her as the old hag behind her with an apple. Does anyone know if they are working in Snow White? I don't see how it would fit in the plot. It would be nice. I always thought she would make an excellent evil queen and her little plot about killing virgins is really twisted and reminds me of Bathory.
