Help finding fairy tales from specific places...
Hello all;

I need help finding fairy tales that more or less derived from one specific culture/ continent/ area.

Also...I need to know a few fairy tales, and where they originated from.

Knowing the things above, which are pretty much the same things anyways, would be so wonderful!

Well, origins can get pretty tangled up, but a lot of folktale collections will give you the place where each particular variant was found. Have you looked at Jane Yolen's Favorite Folktales From Around the World?

And please read the histories of the many tales available on SurLaLune for similar information.

Example:

Perhaps you can do no better than these web pages to track down the origins of fairy tales. I've been trying to do it for years, and I've found ultimately that while the continents and cultures vary, the psychology, the sould of the story is the same. I no sooner peg down the origin of one fairy tale when you find it's twin in another culture and country. Books-as many books as you can find may hold more clues. And the more difficult it is, the closer you're probably getting!
