Harry Potter Conference
Hi all,

I'm the Chair of Formal Programming for The Witching Hour: A Harry Potter Symposium, an academic conference that will take place October 6-10, 2005, in Salem, MA. We're looking for submissions -- academic, professional, and creative -- and are hoping to receive proposals from a wide variety of HP readers: scholars, teachers, librarians, fans, and so forth. One of the chief ideas behind the program is to get academics and fans talking, as there is an immense amount both sides can learn from each other. Also, we have a *brilliant* lineup of special guests, including Charles de Lint, Tamora Pierce, Marleen Barr, Ellen Datlow, Holly Black, Nancy Farmer, and Charles Brown (of Locus); our Keynote Speakers will be Henry Jenkins (MIT) on fan culture, and John Cech (U of Florida, NPR's "Recess") on HP and the hero's journey.

Our deadline for submissions is May 15. Here's a link to our CFP:

As you can see, we're interested in a wide variety of topics and approaches to the material: literary, educational, psychological, legal, folkloric, and so on. We're calling for creative submissions as well, and information on that can be found in the sidebar in the above link. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in touch, either here or via email.

(Many thanks to Heidi for letting me post this. : )
