I choose both.
An apprentice is given a choice between sun and moon.
The title might be "Silver and Gold".
The author is, I think, an Endicott Studio person.
Can you help me find the story?
Thanks!

Emma Bull's story
Sorry, it took awhile to get back to you! The story is "Silver or Gold" and it's by Emma Bull (indeed an Endicotter!)

Here's the story on the site:

Silver and/or Gold!
Dear Midori,

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. If the fulltext is on the Studio website, um so besser! I want to let out my inner fan for a minute and tell you that I love all your work, and all the work of all the artists of every kind who are associated with the Studio. I'm very grateful to Terri, you, Ellen, Delia, et al., who have been remythologizing my world. (Now out comes my inner narcissist: you can find out about me at members.cox.net/paul.oppenheimer/.) I was the kid who never believed in "fairy tales" because "they aren't true." I am a trained logician and worked for many years in computer science. "I choose both!" is my new mantra: both fact and fiction, both natural science and poetry, both logical rigor and mythology.

Best,
Paul Oppenheimer

P.S. If there are ever any opportunities to meet some of you down in Tucson without interrupting your work, please let me know. Thank you.
