Endicott's Summer Issue now online
Well, perhaps it's close to being our "Indian Summer" issue, but Terri and I are very happy to be able to present at last our Summer Issue of the Journal of Mythic Arts.
And what an issue it is! The theme is "Mythic Patterns" and we explore it in articles, fiction, poetry and art. Terri's letter to the editor is an excellent place to start (and this issue illustrated).
In the Reading Room, Ari Berk has given us a wonderful article on the complexity of the Labyrinth (a subject close to my heart), while Terri has explored the origins of the Triple Hare symbolism. (also this article contains new art by Terri that I think is fabulous!) Mythic patterns abound in the culture of tattoo and Kim Atineau has given us a gorgeous take on tattoo and fairy tale in her story Briar Rose
In the Gallery we have two offerings; superb Welsh artist Clive Hicks-Jenkins and a revision of Dutch artist Marya Lee Kruyt pages with new scans, bigger and more beautiful pages of her mythic art.
In the Crossroads, I am very happy to introduce Jeanette Snyder's article on A lce Lha mo, Tibetan folk opera, recalling a series of performances she attended in the late 60's as a young graduate student in Tibetan studies.
In the Coffeehouse, the poetry touches on tattoo, mythic cycles and fairy tales. Nathalie F. Anderson's beautiful poem The Slaking, is followed by Patter Cotter's pair of mythic poems, The Dream of Angus and How Caer Came into Being. Mario Milosevic's poem Mark and Bob Hicok's poem Becoming Bird recount the transformational power of the tattoo. Finally, Joseph Stanton gives us a wonderful fairy tale poem in The Twelve Dancing Princessess.
