Cardea, goddess of doorways
Can anyone tell me anything about the Roman goddess Cardea, besides the identical summaries at Wikipedia, Pantheon.org and answers.net?
All help and details are, as always, enormously appreciated.

Re: Cardea, goddess of doorways
Have you tried the Obscure Goddess Online Directory? The page on Cardea is here. It seems to contain more information than Wikipedia, and looks fairly reliable.

If you want to avoid getting the Wikipedia information in your google searches, you can choose a phrase common to all of them and restrict it from your search (I searched for cardea goddess -"religious formula").

You might also want to consult a book on Greek/Roman mythology.

Hope this helps!

Books? How quaint, hehe. Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: cardea
Haha, sometimes it seems that way. I can't imagine having to do all my research in the time before the Internet.

Good luck rustling up more information! Am I being nosey if I ask you why you're interested in Cardea? (If so, don't worry about responding).

Oh, that's not too nosey at all. I'm writing a novel and the main character, who's been introduced to Faerie rather abruptly, is discovering certain talents she has- she can see pathways to Faerie and make them bigger, for more people to come through; she can cross over the threshold of a fairy's residence without them knowing (I think I made that up, the fairies noticing if someone comes in their space. Or maybe I got it through osmosis from somewhere. If you've seen that concept elsewhere, I'd be thrilled to hear about it.)
So after writing all that, I figured I need her to be something not human, not fairy, not angel or demon, so scrounged through the recycle bins of Wikipedia and came up with a goddess of doorways, and it seemed to fit the circumstances, plus have the added bonus of powers regarding wind and protection of children (which also comes into the story) and so there's fun stuff about herself for her to discover.
So... that's why. :D

Re: cardea
Haha, thanks Intrikate. I am always idly curious about what makes people look for obscure knowledge, because there's bound to be a story behind it (one way or another).

Your story sounds pretty neat (I can't think, offhand, of any direct sources for the fairy threshold awareness thing - the closest I come is the idea that vampires need to be invited in. However, I am not very well read in that branch of things). Interesting, the idea of Cardea being a goddess and unaware of it - a case of amnesia, reincarnation, or something else?

Hope the novel goes well!
