winged lions
This is probably a stupid question...but are there any winged lions in mythology? I know that in Venice in St. Marks there are some in the square, but I was just wondering if they had any significance.

Re: winged lions
The winged lion is a symbol for St. Mark.

The Manticore and Sphynx also appears as winged lions.

Re: winged lions
I believe they originated in ancient mesopotamia (Assyria and Babylon). They usually gave them the heads of their kings for obvious reasons.
