folktales about the birth of folktales
I'm interested about traditional folktales from all over the world that tell us how the folktales were "born".I'm interested only in traditional material and not an modern story or stories that explain to us how the tales came in our world.

Re: folktales about the birth of folktales
I think the Grimms wrote one, about a chest that, when unlocked, released all the stories into the world, but I might be wrong.

Hesiod's Theogony/Works & Days touches on this topic somewhat; the Theogony begins with a prayer to the Muses in thanks for their inspiration.

There is a wonderful Anansi/Anancy story about this : "How Ananasi Obtained the Sky God's Stories."

Whoops ! That should, of course, be "How Anansi obtained the Sky God's Stories."
