postmodern fairy tales
hello to everyone!
i am writting my thesis paper on postmodern fairy tales. being a last minute person, i am a bit panicked that i only have 3 weeks left and have nothing concrete yet!

i am from romania, so my main source is the internet ...we don`t really have a wide range of books in the local library.
so, my request would be: if anyone happens to know any good links to the work of major fairy tale theorists, or better- sumary of the most important theories..please let me know.

after the theoretic part, i will highlight the postmodern features in coover`s "a child again" and atwood`s "the penelopiad" and also barthelme`s "snow white"

i`ve seen that there are a lot of people on this forum that are very familiar with the theme i want to write about, so please tell me your opinions.

thank you ,
monica

Re: postmodern fairy tales
I know this isn't much use, because of the internet being your main source for research, but if it's at all possible, it would be wonderful if you could get a hold of Cristina Bacchilega's Postmodern Fairy Tales. It's a great book, and she's very smart indeed. But after doing some searching, I can't find any excerpts from the book posted online. I'm very sorry, and I wish you the best of luck.

Re: postmodern fairy tales

I saw and read about Bacchilega`s book, but unfortunately it wasn`t released in Romania, yet.
ordering it online might be a possibility, but the deadline for my paper is in 3 weeks...so...

thank you veronica,

research
Try googling "postmodern fairy tale theory" and "postmodern fairy tale" as a first step.

Also, search the MLA Bibliography for articles, which can be faxed to your university library well within your time frame.

Be sure to cite all informal ideas you encounter, as well as any formal research you do yourself.

In general, I don't believe students should make bulletin boards (like SurLaLune) a first stop in their research processes. This doesn't make the best use of the knowledge of list members and doesn't help students to build excellent research and analytical skills -- toward which your assignment is no doubt geared.

Re: research
I agree that students should research on their own, but given the fact that in Romania there are far too few books on postmodernity, I thought I`d try here. Actually, this site was reccomended to me by my teacher.

This is my graduation paper, my thesis I am writting..it is also in English, which tightens the resources I could find. The books i will talk about were not even released in my country: Coover`s "A Child Again" ; Atwood`s "Penelopiad" and Barthelme`s " Snow White" .

So, without intending it to be an excuse... Ithis is it!
I am grateful for any help

thanks again

Re: research
You first want to get an idea of what "postmodern" means. It has slightly different meanings upon whether one is referring to literature, poetry or art. The Wikipedia definition is here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postmodern (and it's quite lengthy).

Re: research
I am reading, reading... I found a very good article :The changing aesthetics of character in children's fiction by Maria Nikolajeva

it`s a starting point
allI have to do( which actually is a lot of work ) is to concentrate the theories and then see what postmodernists changed
