Issue one focuses on Morgan who has just recently acquired Annabelle along with the troubles of her deranged friend Dominique. Morgan finds herself wrapped up in a series of horrible events, it seems that all her friends are turning up dead and poor Morgan is afraid that she may be responsible for the murders. Join Annabelle (our narrator) in the first of many spooky stories to come. N&FT is written by Serena Valentino of Gloomcookie fame, and illustrated by the amazing Singapore-based artist Foo Swee Chin (or Fsc, as she prefers).

Castle Waiting

Castle Waiting by Linda Medley

Castle Waiting Volume 1: Lucky Road by Linda MedleyCastle Waiting Volume 1: Lucky Road by Linda MedleyCastle Waiting The Curse Of Brambly Hedge by Linda Medley

Castle Waiting (from the publisher): "The multiple Harvey and Eisner award-winning fantasy is now collected in one volume!

"The 450-page Castle Waiting graphic novel tells the story of an isolated, abandoned castle, and the eccentric inhabitants who bring it back to life. A fable for modern times, Castle Waiting is a fairy tale that's not about rescuing the princess, saving the kingdom, or fighting the ultimate war between Good and Evil—but about being a hero in your own home.

"For the first time, Fantagraphics' Castle Waiting collects the entire story into one mammoth volume—and includes the concluding chapter written and drawn especially for this volume.

"Wittily reinterpreting the Grimm Brothers classic tale "Briar Rose" (Sleeping Beauty) as a story of love, enchantment, and sibling rivalry, the opening chapter "The Curse Of Brambly Hedge" sets the stage for the story.

"In the second chapter, "The Lucky Road," Lady Jain's fairy-tale life turns out not-so-happily ever after, as she leaves to search for Castle Waiting, a wondrous, mythical refuge where "all are welcome." Jain soon finds the castle is very much a home as well as a refuge, and learns to fit in with its eccentric inhabitants as she discovers how she can help them bring the lonesome, dilapidated place back to life.

"The third chapter, "Solicitine," tells the story of Peaceful Warren, a young woman destined and determined to live an unconventional life. From the barroom to the circus to the convent and beyond, this chapter is a tale of an extraordinary adventure, an extraordinary friendship, and of making a place for oneself in the world.

"An artist with 20 years' experience in comics and children's books, Linda Medley lavishly illustrates Castle Waiting in a classic visual style reminiscent of Arthur Rackham and William Heath Robinson. Blending elements from a variety of sources—fairy tales, folklore, nursery rhymes—Medley tells the story of the everyday lives of fantastic characters with humor, intelligence, and insight into human nature. Castle Waiting can be read on multiple levels and can be enjoyed by children and literate adults."

Junko Mizuno

Cinderalla by Junko Mizuno Hansel and Gretel by Junko Mizuno

Cinderalla: This is the classic fairy tale turned on its head. In Cinderalla, Dad and the stepsisters are zombies, the family runs a yakitori restaurant, and the prince is so sick he’s on a permanent IV support system. Junko Mizuno’s work possesses a postfeminist consciousness, and the book’s psychedelic tone is enhanced by the artist’s playful, “grotesque-cute” color illustrations.

Hansel and Gretel: Everyone knows Hansel and Gretel - Hansel's the squatty kid with a tuna can strapped over his mouth to prevent it from shattering everything around him; Gretel's the tall, pink-haired schoolgirl in the sailor suit, attacking bullies with her bamboo sword. At least that's Junko Mizuno's version! In this twisted take on the classic fairy tale, the kids' parents run the mountain grocery store, fielding visits from the green girls who grow spinach from their scalps and the 40-foot-tall piglet who slices cuts to order off his big belly. More madness comes with the arrival of Queen Marilyn and her insidious black magic! Can the kids save the day? This novel represents a new phase in Mizuno's art, one marked by psychedelic hues that give the arresting story the feel of a dark dream. This tale from the master of the cute and the grotesque is color illustrated throughout.

Pretear (4 volumes): Himeno is a high school freshman who's having trouble adjusting to the lifestyle of the very rich. Her father Kaoru is a one-time famous author of young girls' novels. One of his greatest fans was Natsue, a wealthy woman who liked Kaoru so much that she snatched him up from the rundown apartment and married him! But Himeno's life is far from rosy. Her dad tends to take the side of Natsue rather than her, and Natsue's two daughters from a previous marriage aren't very fond of their new stepsister. One day, Himeno takes a shortcut to school and meets a young boy. When she takes the boy's hand, she's transported to a fantasy world that lies on the brink of extinction. And the one person that can stop it is the girl called "Pretear."
