Wiscon Reports
I, like Jane, am living vicariously through the reports! Helen, I loved your post...and it sounds like you were quite the hit...congrats!! Please keep us updated on your plans for a con...that would be wonderful!

Charles, I can't wait to see your presentation with Terri next year---is the mini site still up? I used to collect Sulamith Wulfing prints from a tiny bed & bath store (still can't figure out *that* connection) in Eureka when I was at HSU-- I was so moved not only by her work but by her story as well...

Terri: I would so love to attend next year and give a talk on Deer Woman---you know she occupies much of my time these days. And thanks, as always, for your support of my work.

Midori: This is a little off topic, but you posted some terrific insights into the "Robber Bridegroom" postings from a year or so ago---could you email me or maybe we could start another posting on the topic...

Visionary artists link
Carolyn,

If you want to scroll down through the whole VERY interesting discussion on this type of art you can go to the archieves of this board and in Sept. of 2001 you will find it.

Here is the link to the mini-art website:
lightfallsdesign.com/fair...tml

Hope you enjoy the pieces and if you (or anyone else) are aware of other artists that should be in this discussion please don't hesitate to speak up.

Best,
Charles

PS> You should be receiving your copy of THE GREEN MAN anyday now as they are at last mailing out the contributors copies...

The correct link...
Okay, let's try this again shall we...

lightfallsdesign.com/fairytale.html

Just copy and paste that address into your search engine since I can NEVER get those automatic links to work for me.

Sigh...

Greenman, etc.
Carolyn: I got my Green Man copies today, so yours should appear any day now as well.

Heidi: We gave out a "Fairy Tale" flyer at Wiscon that listed your beautiful SurLaLune site along with some other fairy tale resources (the Endicott site, Heinz's Institute for Interstitial Studies at SUNY New Paltz, the new edition of Kate's anthology, Don's Marvels & Tales, Jane's Touch Magic, Gail's New Tales for Old, etc.) Some new people may find their way to this discussion board as a result. I went up with 300 copies and came back with only 40, so people were clearly picking it up.

Thank you, as always, for the publicity, Terri. The more the merrier and I enjoy the diversity we all bring here. Hopefully some new and old friends will join us and add to the discussions.

WisCon
Sounds like a wonderful experience. And such interesting topics! I am glad to hear of these things although with my limited knowledge I am sure most everything would have zoomed right over my head - either that or I would have sat there just trying to absorb.

What a delight to be able to share with you all on an everyday basis.

Kate,

Glad you could go!

Terri,

I would love to hear more about the transgression discussion. That topic really grabbed my interest.

Hey Sharyn,

Welcome to the board! I'm glad you're here! And I can't wait for the copies! (you are so nice to write us all notes--how incredibly thoughtful!)

No problem
Of course -- I completely understand, Terri. I had a feeling, and that's why I made sure to ask first.

Hello hello Sharyn! So glad to see you -- you're always welcome.

Hi!
SHARYN. . .SHARYN. . .SHARYN (arms waving.) See you, can't escape me!

I want to jump on the fence, like Chaucer in Knight's Tale, and work up a rousing intro:
She's tall,
she's beautiful,
she's literate,
she's the punk goddess of children's books.
Put your paws together, my friends, for Sharyn November!

Oh, sorry, not quite the tone for these boards.

Purrrfect tone...
I think it's the purrrfect tone for these boards, Jane!

Soft whispers and valley blossoms,

The White Cat... I mean, Kerrie

Re: Fairy Tale Con
Terri (from back on Page 3),
I just ordered "Outfoxing Coyote", so even though I was on the panel, I want to second that Carolyn should come to WisCon and talk about Deer Woman. If we could get her to do that and get Judith Berman to attend, maybe we can start a whole track of programming on Native American myth, coyote tricksters, and the various lesser-known female characters therein, Spiderwoman, Yellow Woman, et. al.
I'll ask Judith about it.

And fly carefully to England,
Greg

Re: Fairy Tale Con
Welcome, Carolyn and Sharyn!
This board just gets better all the time ... Carolyn, I just picked up _Outfoxing Coyote_, and am enjoying *so* much. Lyrical and beautiful ... please come to WisCon next year (and ICFA as well). Sharyn, I loved meeting you at WisCon, but was too out of it to actually say anything about _Green Man_, which is a wonderful, wonderful work. I also love your web-site - I spent a couple of hours this morning just reading through and clicking on random links. Stay and inspire us further!

Best,
Helen

Re: Fairy Tale Con
Oh, it is always so good when new faces appear here! I am still reading The Green Man, and finding it to be entirely inspiring. My daughters are fighting over who gets it next. Sharyn, it is wonderful, and we three thank you for its production. I would also love to see some Native American programming, as Greg says. I recorded several versions of Buffalo Woman in my days on the Rosebud, but more importantly (to me) were the ways in which the women I spoke with related the story to their current lives on the reservation. It was good for me to see that these myths still play a vital role in the definition of the people, particularly the women of the tribe, both old and young.

re: Wow!
Helen, thank you for your praise of Outfoxing Coyote---that means a lot to me. I do hope to make it to Wiscon next year, who do I see about wrangling an invite?

Sharyn, hello! That is kind of you to send out thank you notes---I can't wait to see Charles' interpretation of Deer Woman. I keep hearing great things about the book and am honored to have been part of it. And it's nice to *meet* you here on the board...

Re: re: Wow!
Dear Carolyn:
It's a wonderful, wonderful book; I have _Through the Eye of the Deer_ on order from Amazon as we speak, and am very much looking forward to receiving it. I believe that Justine Larbalestier is in charge of the academic programming at WisCon. I can't seem to find her address, but if you write to Jane Hawkins at jhawk@oz.net, she should be able to forward any ideas to her, or at least to give you Justine's address. I really hope that you decide to come; it would be great to hear you speak.

Best,
Helen

Thanks
Thank you for including my book in your flyer. Is there a chance that we can get a copy for my students here at the university? I always direct them to this site and use Jane's Touch Magic as a text but it would be nice to doulble check that I am not missing out any important resources. Thanks again, Gail

Re: Thanks
Carolyn,
If you want/need Justine's email address, send me an email and I'll pass it on to you.
Best,
Greg
